Soul Kids is Kenyan and Scandinavian organisations in a joint educational effort, targeting street kids from Kibera, improving life quality and increasing options for a positive entry into adulthood.
Soul Kids focus on the children admitted in the reception centre “Joseph Kangethe Social Hall”, but also at a running of a smaller orphanage in Kibera. 

• Preparing for life
Our plans are simply to give the children a meaningful life, by pulling them into a number of activities, all focused at fostering and education. The effort contains social and creative workshops, football training and other sports activities, courses in computer knowledge, cooking, hygiene and a variety of similar education, focused at preparing for the grown-up life. We would like to teach responsibility and the importance of investing in yourself and the future.

• Democratic understanding
At the same time we hope to consolidate the children’s full membership in Soul Kids, giving them a strong voice for speaking out. At its best, SoulKids in Kibera will teach the children how mutual interest and formal cooperation can lead to real impact. By fully understanding the organisation’s framework and by taking responsibility for their own development, the children will hopefully grow as social beings. By actively working with the group, in full democratic accordance, the kids will gain both democratic understanding and familiarity with democratic rules and procedures.

• Individual development plans
Soul Kids would not be truly for the children if it did not take a solid grip of the full social profile of each child. Hence, a thorough social survey will be made for each child embraced by the project. This profile will be used by the SoulKids Secretariat to follow up individually on each kid, making it possible to outline individual development plans. In this relation the option of family reunions should be considered.

• Community belonging
A strongly collaborative project profile guarantees the SoulKids project both community belonging and sustainability. A number of CBO: s in Kibera has already joined us, working with health, education, culture and sports, and we can see almost non-ending extension  options.
